A 5-year-old put in foster care under questionable circumstances is back with her mother but the mother is still battling DHS. Attorney Natalie Cronk said DHS unexpectantly called Jessica Wilbur after my article ran last Wednesday about DHS putting the child into foster care based on a document signed by the non-custodial father.

Officials from the state Department of Children and Families might have had an easier time walking into the lion’s den Thursday night when they came to the Carousel Building at Beardsley Zoo instead of facing the hostile, heckling crowd of nearly 250 residents opposed to a planned $15.7 million detention and treatment center for girls in the city’s Upper East Side.

The union representing 2,700 social workers and staff for the state’s child-protection agency has voted by a nearly 10-1 ratio to declare no confidence in Commissioner Anthony “Angelo’’ McClain, an unprecedented move for the agency.

Matthew Roberts, now 41, was given up for adoption as a baby. Growing up in Rockford, Ill., he didn’t know he was adopted until his sister told him in fifth grade and it shocked him.
