|268 Children Who Passed Through L.A. County’s Child Welfare Program Died In Past 18 Months

At least 268 children who had passed through the child welfare system died from January 2008 through early August, according to internal county records obtained by The Times. They show that 213 were by unnatural or undetermined causes, including 76 homicides, 35 accidents and 16 suicides.

Social services’ failure over Baby P’s was not a one-off aberration, Ofsted inspectors have found after a “shocking” inspection into the tragedy, the High Court has heard.

Miguel Padilla ran away from a licensed group home in April 2008, but he didn’t go far.
Unknown to anyone at the time, the 17-year-old amputee made his way to a stand of trees near the main driveway. Using his one arm, he climbed into the branches, tied a makeshift noose to a limb and hanged himself.

A couple at the centre of an international manhunt 11 years ago after they went on the run with their foster daughters have been arrested following allegations of child abuse, it emerged today.

A forensic pathologist who conducted the autopsy on 16-year-old Jordan Kaleb Shelton told Rogersville jurors Tuesday she concluded the boy’s death was “homicidal strangulation.”

Monday October 5th, 2009 – Rally 4 Accountability
In front of the Ontario legislative building, at Queens Park, on Monday was a “Rally 4 Accountability” to have the Ontario Ombudsman oversee the Children’s Aid Society.
Andrea Horwath, MPP and leader of the Ontario New Democratic Party, introduced Bill 93 in 2008 to provide external investigations of allegations against the Childrens Aid Society.

Note: I wonder if he’s ever provided back-up support for the product acquisition team of the child protective industry.
