Donicio Marichalar, a Democratic candidate in the 15th Legislative District, was fired last year as a state social worker for failing to properly investigate allegations of child abuse, lack of productivity and for missing too much work, according to state officials.

Savannah Hall’s death in late January 2001 was preventable, Dr. Robert Reece, an expert in pediatric medicine, said during the fourth day of a coroner’s inquest Thursday.
Savannah was found unresponsive in her foster-care home in Prince George on Jan. 24, 2001, and died in B.C. Children’s Hospital two days later.
