A former prison officer, who worked in a male New Zealand prison, is coming to Mudgee to speak on raising boys and keeping them from doing foolish things that could ruin their lives.

Centracare is hosting a forum for parents, with Celia Lashlie, on ˜bringing up boys “ turning gorgeous boys into good men.™

Celia went on to become manager of Christchurch Womens Prison.

She is also the author of ˜He’ll Be OK“ Growing Gorgeous Boys into Good Men and  ˜The Journey to Prison. Who Goes and Why?”

She is also a mother. She raised a son on her own and feared for his survival.

As a crucial part of the NZ Good Man Project, she talked to 180 classes of boys throughout the country. Her insights into what boys need – and what parents can do to help them – are ground-breaking.

The forum will focus on how adolescent boys seem to disappear into another world where they barely communicate, and where fast cars, alcohol and drugs are constant temptations.

Celia asks the question “ will they survive to become good men? She will focus on the skills adults need to understand the male adolescent and how they can be helped through the difficult and dangerous time of adolescence.
