Fact-Checking the DV Industry

As a public service to you, dear readers, I, your host, will occasionally attempt to clear the air on a particular topic by getting hard empirical data out in the open. This is especially important when dealing with feminists, whose demagoguery demands that their claims be tested against the facts. One of the areas that is rampant with disinformation is domestic violence, a subject in which feminists playing fast and loose with the facts does real harm to both men and women.

Anyways, via Jim at RationShed, I stumbled across this YouTube vid of a BBC program that fact-checked the UK and WHO’s DV industry’s proselytizing about the rate at which women are allegedly victimized by DV:

In case you don’t want to listen to the entire 9 1/2 minutes of the video, here are the relevant points:

(1) The “DV is the leading cause of death for women 15-44″ statistic is a myth. AIDS is the leading cause of death for this age group, followed by TB and then suicide. DV is not in the top 10 causes of death for women in this age group worldwide.

(2) The “DV is the leading cause of morbidity for women ages 15-44″ statistic is a myth. Depression is the leading cause of morbidity in this age group worldwide, followed by schizophrenia and then bipolar disorder. The program did not place a ranking for DV’s contribution to morbidity because hard data is unavailable.

(3) The UK’s Home Office (analogous to the US Department of Health and Human Services and Department of Homeland Security) has retreated from their claim that “DV is the leading cause of mortality / morbidity”, saying that these claims were “illustrative figure[s]“. In other words, these claims were fabrications, fictions that unfortunately found its way into official reports, news stories, and policy documents in that country and boomeranged around the world.

(4) Only 4% of women in the UK report a DV incident in a given year; if one narrows the definition of DV to include actual violence, in other words, battery, that number slips to 3.4%.

So, one can see that this particular statistic, that DV is a leading cause of morbidity/mortality in women, is bogus and horrifically inflated.

Oh, but don’t you know those percentages are artificially low because there are hordes and hordes of oppressed women who are too afraid to report their unending torment? After all, every man is an abuser, it’s just a matter of degree, as the dogma goes.

Sorry, couldn’t resist. The next fembot reader was going to spew that crap anyway so I just beat her to the punch.

Someone needs to put up a billboard showing a woman beating her husband with a caption saying something like “Never beat your man” and a link to a website that gives the other side of domestic violence, that of women attacking men. I just imagine it would start a firestorm in the media, at least locally.

Yeah, Jesse, a whole lotta DV activists hang their hat on “estimations” of actual DV prevalence, since they think it is grossly underreported. But since they have no data to support their assertions, what they cite as estimations are no more than their gut feel (for the honest DV activists) or man-hating agitprop (for the dishonest DV activists).

Erik, whenever I drive south on I-25, just east of Casper, I spy a billboard with a picture of a woman with a huge shiner in her left eye and a picture of a man being led away in handcuffs. Captioning the images is the phrase “IT’S NOT OK!”.

I wonder what the response would be if the images were reversed.

Or, better yet, the “Oliver Stone” defense: “It speaks a higher truth!”
